The Problem Gambling Network of Ohio Award of Excellence is presented in recognition of those individuals that have demonstrated significant contributions through innovation, advocacy, dedication, and impact on the Ohio problem gambling service system and/or responsible gambling field.
2024 AWARD RECIPIENTS
Dr. Lori Rugle has dedicated more than 35 years to the field of gambling addiction. Dr. Rugle is pioneer of gambling services in Ohio and nationally. Dr. Rugle has represented the Ohio Council on Problem Gambling (before becoming PGNO), the Ohio Problem Gambling Advisory Board, Director of Problem Gambling Services for the state of Connecticut and Director of the Maryland Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling. Dr. Rugle has held many roles throughout her time in this field – counselor, trainer, mentor, advocate, role model, and researcher, and pioneer. Dr. Rugle was dilligent in always advocating that gambling must be inserted in conversations and programs for substance use and mental health.
Dr. Heather Chapman has dedicated more than 25 years to the field of gambling addiction. Dr. Chapman has held many roles throughout her time in this field – counselor, trainer, mentor, advocate, role model, researcher, and innovator. Dr. Chapman created and led the Gambling Fellowship program, led the Advanced Gambling Treatment Stages trainings, supervises those who are in the process of obtaining their gambling endorsements and/or licenses, led the gambling treatment supervision calls, and has co-authored countless research projects on gambling – just to name a few of her accomplishments
Amanda was a member of the Ohio Problem Gambling Advisory Board and assisted passionately with the Ohio Gambling Survey for over 10 years. Amanda also served on the prevention committee for the National Council on Problem Gambling and chaired the Social Media and Communications subcommittee. Amanda committed her whole career to Problem Gambling Prevention and Awareness. Her dedication to this was early in the work of problem gambling prevention. Because of this, she was recognized as a leader in not only Ohio, but at a national level as well. Her efforts have brought data regarding problem gambling behavior and perception to the state of Ohio. She brought information and attention to the topic that is rarely seen.
