Stages Training Series


The foundation for providing quality gambling disorder treatment

The Gambling Disorder Stages Training Series consists of three separate courses on Ohio's gambling service support system and how to implement treatment strategies within the community.


Treatment professionals who complete all three courses in their entirety will receive the 30 hours necessary to become qualified in treating gambling disorder. This includes being eligible to apply for a Gambling Endorsement through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals (OCDP) Board, add gambling as a scope of practice  under the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist (CSWMFT) Board, or prepare for the International Certified Gambling Counselor (ICGC) Examination.

Stage I

Gambling, Problem Gambling, and Ohio's Service System

Increase participants’ knowledge of gambling and gambling expansion, risks and warning signs, and co-morbidities of problem gambling. This training also discusses new and emerging trends in gambling and gaming, legislative updates and how to work with and engage your agency, board, and community. Interactive activities utilizing breakout rooms, polls, handouts, and independent work will be completed during this training.


12 CEUs provided for the entire three-day course.

Continuing Education Units

12.0 CEUs are available for this training which can be used toward obtaining the GAMB Endorsement through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Board or towards becoming a counselor qualified to treat gambling disorder through the Ohio Social Worker, Counselor, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board.

 

Problem Gambling Network of Ohio is an approved continuing education provider through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board, the Ohio Counselor, Social Work, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board, and the International Problem Gambling and Gaming Certification Organization.

Stage II

Applications and Approaches in Treating Gambling Disorder

Aimed at conceptualization, treatment planning, and treatment delivery for those presenting with problem gambling and gambling disorder. Best practice models of care for gambling issues will be reviewed, specifically highlighting Cognitive Behavioral Treatment, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness-Based Interventions. The training will be interactive, with large and small group exercises aimed at increasing competencies for gambling treatment.

Stage III

Introduction to the Roles of Family and Finances in Treating Gambling Disorder

This training emcompasses education on areas unique to problem gambling and problem gambling treatment, such as financial management and the impact family members can have on recovery. Collaborative exercises utilizing breakout rooms and practical activities are included in this training.


6 CEUs provided for the entire two-day course. Participants must have completed Stage I or have 12 hours of gambling-specific education to attend.

Continuing Education Units

6.0 CEUs are available for this training which can be used toward obtaining the GAMB Endorsement through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Board or towards becoming a counselor qualified to treat gambling disorder through the Ohio Social Worker, Counselor, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board.
