Case Presentation - Gambling Disorder via Pokemon Cards & Card Breaking

A certified gambling clinician will be presenting on a 31 year old male who meets criteria for Gambling Disorder, Severe with a preferred form of gambling of Pokemon cards. She will review how the client meets criteria for the diagnosis given, how his previous treatment before going to the Cleveland VA was a barrier to his care, the treatment plan that was created, interventions utilized and progress in treatment. The clinician will also present on card breaking related to sports cards and Pokemon cards – what it is, how it operates, and where it takes place.

Lisa Foisel is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Internationally certified Gambling Counselor and a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor currently working in the Residential Gambling Treatment Program at the Cleveland VA. She has been working in this field since 2015, spending the last 4 years at the VA. Prior to that she worked in community mental health treatment serving individuals who were dually diagnosed with mental health, substance use and gambling. Lisa earned her Bachelor’s of Science at Baldwin Wallace University and then continued her education in a Master’s program at Cleveland State University. Lisa’s hope is to continue spreading awareness of gambling within the VA and community at large.
