Indiana Council Webinar: It’s All About Loss and Who Says Childhood Sets the Stage for Disordered Gambling? Integrating Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) into Disordered Gambling Treatment/Prevention
Did you know that exposure to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), such as abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction, represent risk factors for poorer mental and physical health outcomes across the lifespan (Schilling, 2007): However, a growing body of research also documents an association between childhood adversity and disordered gambling in childhood (Storr et al. 2012) and in adulthood (Afifi et al., 2010; Dion et al., 2015; Poole, Kim, Dobson, & Hodgins, 2017). Clinicians often see gamblers who never received support at all for ACEs and losses. This session will highlight need for ACEs assessment during gambling disorder treatment and supporting these “soul” and “heart” losses for improved treatment outcomes.
